Early 20th century biographical essay - sophomores
Cultural Changes of the Early 1900’s
As we explore history and our world in Global Studies we are always asking ourselves, “How have individuals impacted the course of human history?”
You will be researching an individual from the Early 20th Century and creating a biographical essay of them. You will be assigned one of the people listed below and you must follow the Template of questions provided to you, including a works cited of resources that you used in your research.

· Sigmund Freud
· Virginia Woolf
· James Joyce
· Louis Armstrong
· Duke Ellington
· Henri Matisse
· Pablo Picasso
· Paul Klee
· Vasily Kandinsky
· Salvador Dali
Assess who is this person? List important biographical information that you find, such as birth date, birthplace, parents, childhood experiences, schooling, marriage, etc;
Rate this person as being either a hero or role model or neither? To what extent is this person one or the other?
Propose what this person’s major accomplishment was? If you were developing a symbolic representation for this person, what would you include?
Measure how this person demonstrated perseverance?
Criticize how this person became famous?
Value what character traits you most admire in this person?
Determine what you learned from this person’s life?
Hypothesize ways you can connect your personal experiences with this person’s experiences.
Assess what kind of impact this person had on the 20th Century.
Infer what legacy this person might have had on the world. Can you link this person’s life to specific examples from fictional stories that you have read? Can you relate qualities in this person or aspects of this person’s experience to other people you have read about in literature and history? If so, whom?
Measure how successful you were in finding many sources of knowledge for your research. What sources have you used to find these facts? Include a works cited of books, articles, journals, etc; that you have used for your information.
The Essay will be due on May 4.
